Is tomato a fruit or a vegetable? It's both. Tomato is considered as one of the chefs bestfriend not only because it can make any dish delicious but it can surely make every plate look presentable. You can mix it any salad or in any soup or whatever you wish to have that sweet-sour taste dish. This has a large amount of antioxidant called lycopene which have been proven to prevent cancer. It has been known that tomato contains iron, potassium and vitamin A. Arent these benefits good enough to make you want to plant your very own organic tomato garden?

Having a tomato in your backyard is not only beneficial to your health but it may be a start of a booming business. There are growers who started a small plot of tomato garden and then expanded, the next thing that they know is that they are supplying their local towns tomato needs.

1. Choose the type of tomato that you want to grow. There are actually a lot of variety, if not hundreds, of tomato and you can select which of the many tomato you want to cultivate in your backyard. Once you are done picking the variety of tomato that you want to grow, you can then shop for supplies that you will be needing in the long run. Garden gloves, back hoe, manure fork and compost fork.

2. Be sure that the soil bed is organically ready for the tomato seeds. You can do this by mixing your backyard soil with kitchen waste, paper products like old newspaper, magazine, bondpaper, sawdust etc., and garden waste. These can help your tomato grow healthy because these organic wastes serve as a fertilizer.

3. One of the most important aspect a tomato need in order to grow healthy is a good sunshine. Be sure to select an area where the sun can freely sprinkle its sunshine on the tomato.

4. And do not forget to water your tomato daily. They get their nutrients from the water in order to grow and be healthy just as humans get their nutrients from the food they take into their bodies.

Seeing your first organic tomato is worth every sweat youve invested and it is true that growing organic tomato is not easy but it is absolutely very rewarding when the harvest time comes.
