1. Install smoke detectors in your home. This is important especially if there are family members who smoke. 3. If you have a fireplace in your home be sure to install a fireplace screen. Through this, sparks or coals can be prevented from flying off to your rug which can start fire. Also, avoid leaving matches near the fireplace nor place rugs near the fireplace.

4. Regularly check all your electrical appliances if there are no loose or frayed cords, not doing so can start a fire. And, trash that octopus plug. It is strongly discourage to use octopus plus or to overuse an extension plug. Make sure all appliances that are not used are unplugged.

5. Another common mistake which most homeowners commit is to run electrical plugs under rug, carpet. Don't forget this.

6. If you smell something unusual coming off from any of your electrical appliances or equipment be sure to have a professional look at it.

7. If you have kids living with you instruct them not to manipulate or plug electrical devices by themselves or better yet do not let them go near or play with kitchen appliances etc. You can also buy plastic safety covers to prevent kids from playing with the outlet.
