As of this writing it has been about five months since the inception of my www.burtchiropractic.com blog. When I began this journey I knew I had nothing to loose but only to gain the knowledge that will help me to shape my practice into a 21st century. I am talking about web 2.0 internet technology. My site has been static for almost 10 years. The content has never changed from one year to another. It was working fine for me at that point and time but I was not satisfied with the fact that I was bound to 5-10 miles radius of my potential patient pool. That how it has been till I began blogging about chiropractic care and health in general.
The Chiropractic Blog has opened the opportunities that would not have been possible with regular static website. Dynamic platform or Web 2.0 is not the future of chiropractic profession but it is the present. Every chiropractor must utilize the power of Social Media and incorporate it into their chiropractic practice. We as a profession have such a powerful opportunity to spread a positive word about Chiropractic profession all over the world. Social Media has no borders for our profession. We can reach tens of thousands people via our chiropractic blog by writing a post, submitting it to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn networks. Have people read it and respond to your message. You as a doctor can provide a health advice to someone thousand miles away from your practice. This is how powerful Chiropractic Blog can be. Is not it Amazing?
Recently I had a lady all the way from Australia, Ruth Messenger, leaving a wonderful comment how her two children were saved by a chiropractic care. I have asked Ruth if she would be interested to write this miracle story as a guest post on my Chiropractic Blog. She agreed. Here is a link for anyone who would like to read this story Chiropractic Adjustment For Children is Amazing. Testimonials like these will be able to bring the positive message about chiropractic care and also bring down the sites that spread a negative message about our profession
Today I have come across very interesting article written by Dr. William Morgan, D.C. Asymmetrical Warfare: Is Chiropractic Losing the Cyberwar? Here is a small excerpt from his article
Asymmetrical warfare refers to the use of a small and lightly equipped force attacking points of weakness in a stronger opponent.
The goal of asymmetrical warfare is not the outright destruction of an enemy. The goal is to humiliate the opposition, to cast doubt on its supporters and, most importantly, to change public opinion. Our profession has been suffering from asymmetrical cyber attacks by a small group of activists seeking to bring about public doubt and to change public opinion - and our losses have been substantial. Go to your favorite search engine and key in the word chiropractic. Check out the results on the first page. The ACA site is usually on top, but on that crucial first page where most searchers linger are two to three extremely critical Web sites maintained by only a few individuals. If you were a member of the public, a student or a medical doctor interested in finding out about chiropractic, you would be exposed to the most opinionated, biased and prejudicial sites you can imagine while searching the word chiropractic.
So, what are we as a profession waiting for? Those sites will not disappear from the first page of Google all by themselves.
I would like to finish this post on a positive note. So, fat it has been an amazing blogging journey. I had people visiting my blog from 112 different countries. My Facebook Fan Page has people from many different parts of the world. I get to interact with people on Twitter about their health problems real time. Social Media is here to stay and will evolve into something more sophisticated and more interactive. The longer you wait the harder it is going to be to jump on this already fast moving train.
