Once you have set up your website and included relevant keywords with high quality content, what is your next move? Do you think you will need to use SEO before you can get ranked or will search engines automatically crawl to your site and give you a high ranking?

Quite simply, yes. Although having quality content and an SEO-optimized site will act as a BONUS to your rankings, it alone will not get you ranked in the top 10, probably not even in the top 100. As research suggests, if you aren't on the first page of Google, then your website isn't getting noticed.

In order to get those high rankings, you'll need to establish links. These links are much like 'referrals' from other websites. The search engines basically aren't trusting what you say your website is about, but is trusting what others say your website is about. So, the more links you build for your website, the more referrals you have and the higher your rankings!

For do it yourself search engine optimization, you'll need to determine, both your:

Longer-tail Keyword or Phrases

To conduct your keyword research, try using Google's keyword tool. Don't focus your link-building efforts on keywords with high total searches per month. Most of these keywords with large searches per month aren't necessarily buyers. More specific keywords often get fewer searches, but tend to have higher conversion rates. This is because the consumer is typing into Google exactly what they are looking for versus just a casual Internet search. Once you've established this keyword or phrase you want to target, make sure it is in the 'clickable' text of your links.

Link-Building Method(s)

Now, it's time for you to create your method of link building. You can be creative here. But you have to make sure that you only include a few link choices through forum postings, blog commenting and article marketing. Make sure that these are do-follow links. You will be wasting your time if you are using no follow links. These links when clicked will redirect your customers back to your website. Initially, you only need to use a method that is effective for you and try to do 50-100 links monthly. If you do this correctly, you are guaranteed to get great results.

Good results don't happen in a snap. This is a long term investment so you have to be patient. You will reap the benefits in time and your website will eventually be valued by your customers.
